Heist (2013)

Performance

Heist is a performance I created with objects I produced as part of the collective Cage.  In 2013, Cage scanned and reprinted the electricity bills, internet bills, and rent checks for our shared space on the Lower East Side of New York using a 3D-printing technology that allowed for scanned text to be reprinted on micro-thin sheets of 24k gold sealed between thin sheets of plastic.  We then sold these gold bills at the MoMA PS1 Book Fair and at Andrew Roth Art Gallery in New York in order to raise money to pay for our infrastructural costs for the following year.  My performance, Heist, took place in and around MoMA PS1.  I temporarily stole the gold bills and left an imprint of my body on each one—a physical trace of the laboring body, which oils the smooth flows of capital.
